We Have Power!

It took about four times as long as what we were first told. But when the EGAT men-in-orange (technicians working for Thailand’s Electrical Generating Authority) finally tied our wires into the high power grid and one-by-one pushed the fuses into their sockets, we were grateful and more than a little relieved! We celebrated with a barbecue that night. Of course, it was not nearly the celebration we allowed ourselves in Laos when, after more than 12 years of living without electricity, we finally saw the lights come on and transformers begin to hum. But at least now the team of talented men from our sister-company in Laos who are helping us put the factory back together can begin cutting and welding some serious steel!

Busy Times

During particularly busy times, my mother used to talk about “being as busy as a one-armed paper-hanger.” Lately we have been feeling a bit that way. At the end of March we received the second installment of equipment for the factory we purchased from Laos—another six large trucks packed and over-flowing. And, as always there were a few glitches. Even allowing for extra time, the trucks were delayed by another two days. Then, once loaded, the drivers failed to cover them with tarps and the rainy season decided to make an early appearance. Most of what was inside was not damaged. But some furniture was. Then there were 4 shipping containers that would be extremely useful on this side. But we couldn’t find a Thai trucking company able and willing to send trucks across to get them. So, they are still sitting on the other side, with 400 meters of swiftly-flowing brown water separating us. We would appreciate your prayers on this one! Ruthie.
